Benny was fantastic! The venue is very vibey, the food is fantastic, you get to meet lots of other international travelers, and they keep the cava flowing! Great value. We were greeted with a glass of cava the moment we walked in the door, then Benny guided us through a jamón and olive oil tasting, and then we joined two groups of other travelers to cook several different tapas at thoughtfully set up cooking stations. We made garlic shrimp, pan con tomate, sautéed mushrooms, and peppers stuffed with bechamel and got to taste along the way. We then had a seated dinner and surprise additional wine tasting! Benny and his assistant Richie were engaging, knowledgeable, and fun!! This was such a fun experience while in Madrid. We took the Tortilla and Spanish Brunch class. We learned a lot and had a great time during the class. I was surprised that this tour was a bit "hidden" when I searched f0r food tours - it definitely wasn't in the first 20 that popped up. I just now learned they are a newer business....and they are FABULOUS. My boyfriend and I booked the Local Tapas Tour with Private Sit-Down Dinner. Prior to the tour I reached out with a couple questions and also to explain that though I spoke some Spanish, it was pretty minimal. Diego, the tour guide, reached out to me over a week in advance to calm my anxiety and answer any questions I had. I mentioned I was not a fan of seafood but was willing to try it, so he ended up tweaking some of the tapas for me! After arriving and being greeted by Diego with a glass of Cava, he told us a bit about himself and the tour. We visited four very different styles of restaurants for a different tapa and drink at each location. We tried tortilla espanola with Albarino wine at a market, then moved to a Michelin nod restaurant for a different wine variety and ham croquettes. We went to a local pub to try Vermout and pinchos (skewered tapa) and ended with a red wine and 3 types of IBerian ham/5types of Manchego cheese. All delicious. The tour didn't feel rushed nor dragged and with the heat the walking was kept to a minimum :) As if that wasn't enough, we ended the evning with a full meal at the Culinary School (wAhere you can take tapas or paella makign classes). My boyfriend had the octopus and I had the beef cheeks. Each came with potatoes and two sauces. And all of it - even the octopus - was delicious. Obviously there was more wine (red and white) as well as a delicious cheesecake dessert that was 30% manchego. Even my boyfriend who doesn't like cheese said it was delicious. The food was heavenly and Diego was so down to earth and fun. We kept inviting him to join us for our dinner and drinks because he was a delight to be with. My boyfriend and I joined for the Taste of Tapas class on a Sunday evening. The food was better than I ever could have imagined and the experience was so incredible. The instructor was so patient, helpful, and entertaining! The bottomless cava was incredible and we were treated like royalty the second we walked in. The entire experience felt warm, authentic, and incredibly well organized, with chefs who genuinely made everyone feel like family rather than customers. From learning to cook different styles of paella with clear guidance, to enjoying gazpacho, bocadillo de calamares, wine, crema catalana, and churros con chocolate together at the table, everything felt thoughtful and immersive. A truly memorable experience and one of the highlights of Madrid.
